  • Memorial Day

... a day to gratefully remember those who have given their lives in service to our country and who are currently serving.  I am thankful.  Yet I can't help thinking that our country needs hardship more than it needs peace, to straighten out many of its problems (i.e. by pointing it back to God).  May God's will be done (in the coming election and beyond).

... a day also to remember one's own life.  God has been so good to me.  Loving and God-focused family, physical provision, many friends and especially a few very close friends, but most of all, The Gift of Jesus Christ coming to earth and dying for me / to pay for my sins, so that I could live with Him and the rest of the redeemed people in heaven forever.   Wow.

... one year ago today, life was extremely exciting, and also confusing and stressful.  Today, life is still confusing and stressful, but it is rather more 'bleak' than 'exciting'...  except for heaven, which is hopefully coming soon.  God lovingly removes the (relatively) cheap treasures of our lives so we can better see the value of the genuine treasure He has already given to us (those of us who are believers in Christ)....

"...God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

  • While listening to Mr. Murray's talk on Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones on Saturday I was impressed over again with the thought of how God meets us in our moments of despair and discouragement.  It is always with eyes and hope for the future which thankfully you seem to fall back on...and begin with again.  He shared the story of the great tragedy in Whales when a mountain of coal waste, loosened by days of rain, slid down on top of an entire school and found every home in the town grieving the loss of at least one child. The town went through a time of depression and yet when the 1 year anniversary came, wanted to commemorate the losses.  They called on Dr. Jones.  He was a bit overwhelmed with the thought and where in the world to begin for the sake and comfort of these people.  Guess where he settled and where the healing began for them??  Romans 8:18...a place I think you've settled before too.  "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory which shall be revealed in us.....21..the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God."  We have to love that!  God is good to let us hope and experience freedom now for the reality of it later.

As for the election, Kim Grunden reminded us, that ALL leaders are ordained by God.  He uses even the evil to bring about His plan.  What a relief.  Not that we are to remain silent, but trust that when all our morals and truth have been shared, God is still in control and will let no man 'mess up His plan.'
