  • I thought that article interesting as well. I think that her grandmother had some legitimate concerns, however, cultures don't stay the same forever. I think a culture retains certain aspects that make it distinct but it does change with time and is not the same now as it was 60 years ago. So although some things then worked and were healthy, there are things about our culture today that keep those very same "healthy" aspects about dating from being true and healthy today.

    Yes, 'dating' has its pros and cons, just like 'courtship'. Dating does not eliminate temptation (as the comments on that article support), but it can provide a bit more 'freedom' and 'flexibility'. However, it can also lead to romantic heart-involvement too quickly, before intentional/logical decisionmaking...
    Meanwhile, 'courtship' has the negative tendency to cause people to commit to each other before knowing each other well... but the positive idea of having one's family be involved (at the right time and the right way)...
    Hmmm....
