Gary Kasparov, possibly the world's most famous chess player (and quite possibly the world's best too) was arrested over the weekend for participating in a protest against Russian President Putin.  In Moscow on Saturday, 9000 anti-riot police engaged the 2000 protesters attending the banned rally.

In America the right to protest is taken for granted.  But in Russia's political climate which is slowly degenerating back into the totalitarianism of a few decades ago, the administration controls most of the media and closely regulates political protest.
