together
Awwww.... how romantic....
Differing roles, equal worth...
Complementary strengths and weaknesses...
Strength and beauty working together...
Different (imperfect) vessels, different names, but filled with the same sweet goodness, and whereof said goodness resides not in the polymers thereof, but from a source wholly other...

my father and I once spent an afternoon determining the best root beer. can't remember what it was.

...and for those of you who were curious, you may now be satisfied upon learning that A&W is actually sweeter (31g sugar/serving compared to 29g) and MUG is saltier (40mg sodium/serving compared to 30mg).
In addition...
...thinking about the terms "conservative" and "liberal" tonight. A "conservative" is (etymologically at least) analogous to an "inertial guidance system", i.e. "hold on to the past traditions at all costs"... a liberal is analogous to "no guidance system" or perhaps a "heat-seeking guidance system"...
...lots (probably 90%) of contemporary youth resent being "classified" into one or the other, because they've seen the excesses of their parents' role models... "call me purple" is the common response to "red or blue? republican or democrat? conservative or liberal?"
...their angst is understandable...
...yet there is another option... besides "conserve", "narcissize", or "stand out from the crowd by saying the same thing that everyone else is saying."
...that is the guidance system that relies on an external reference system.
Is there such a system? Yes.
Is it outdated, inaccurate, bigoted, chauvinistic, irrelevant, stupid, and wrong? No, actually it's not at all.
In fact, it is true, beautiful, reasonable, satisfying, inexpressibly awesome.
where did you get the impression that "liberal" meant "no guidance system?" It's about being able to change your system. An absolutely rigid system, no matter how strong, breaks if pushed the wrong way.

My fave root beer is Barq's. I think it's the only root beer that has caffeine in it.
I know what you're saying, Sol... my analogy was pretty metaphorical.... here's another analogy: three blind men walking through a minefield... prisoners escaping from enemy territory. One of them puts one foot directly in front of the other, afraid to deviate to the right or the left. That would be the 'conservative.' Another one wanders all over the place, depending on his feelings at the moment. That would be the 'liberal.' The third one holds tightly to the hand of the sighted special-forces operative who sprung them from the prison, who happens to perfectly know the only safe path through the minefield. That would be the one who puts his faith in God through believing/obeying His Word the Bible...
Mmmm...makes me thirsty! Unfortunately, I don't think that either the salty or the sweet one is a good choice for breakfast. Oh well.
RB - The nectar of the gods.
Root beer has not received the respect it deserves.
IBC is my favorite RB, but of the two above it's A&W by far!!! All you need is a frosty mug and you're good to go!!!
And neither one has caffeine. Sigh.
Very funny. I'll have to remember the root beer illustration next time I'm trying to sort out the issue of the roles of men and women (especially as the relate to each other). I like the NCO/Officer illustration I've devoped better though.
