The Lion of the Grasslands
"If Satan troubles us, Jesus Christ
You who are the lion of the grasslands
You whose claws are sharp
Will tear out his entrails
And leave them on the ground
For the flies to eat."-- Afua Kuma, Christian songwriter and poet from Ghana
There may be some humor in the reading of that song, by Christians more used to a different type of CCM... (and maybe more used to thinking of Jesus as a "tame lion" or a velvet stuffed lion)... but there is also a lot of truth behind the metaphor...

It is interesting to see different views of Jesus. I actually just posted something on my site about warriors that strikes me as somewhat relevant, so I'll put it here too:
"The Way of the Warrior has been misunderstood. It is not a means to kill and destroy others. Those who seek to compete and better one another are making a terrible mistake. To smash, injure, or destroy is the worst thing a human being can do. The real Way of a Warrior is to prevent such slaughter - it is the Art of Peace, the power of love."
-Morihei Ueshiba
That pretty well covers my thoughts on war, anyway. I myself have found myself looking at opposition, at things that scare or frighten me, and part of me has wanted to lash out and destroy those things. Buut . . . destruction is always destruction, and always begets more destruction. That is my take on it.
Could be I'm just missing the point, though, and am being unnecessarily contrary.
regardless, I like the little excerpt, especially because it makes me think about Africa and Africa is a wonderfully complex place.

It reminds me of my favorite quote from C. S. Lowis's A Lion, a Witch, and a Wardrobe:
"'Then he isn't safe?' said Lucy.
'Safe?' said Mr. Beaver; 'don't you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King, I tell you.'"
I think those are GREAT lyrics.
