  • Jesus Christ: mighty to save

Interesting article from two years ago, about certain combinations of Islamic culture with ethnic organized crime in Australia.

Also, I've been noticing that the most powerful weapon of the postmodern world is not a gun, or a laser beam, or a nuclear bomb, or even "a pen."  The most powerful weapon is a video camera.  We would be wise to learn how to use it.  (...with video footage, "the media"/MSM/Hollywood can tell stories with incredible power... but also "the little man" can tell his own stories with power too... video is a tool (purporting to show 'what really happened) that anybody can use, for evil or for good.)

Yet, of course, we would be wiser still to learn how to use the Bible, the "sword of the Spirit"... because we Christians may indeed get cut down by the world's weapons, including newspapers and video cameras (i.e. made to look rediculous or even falsely accused), but God is the ultimate judge... His opinion is the only opinion we ought to care about.

And His word can pierce into people's souls, and save people!  This is vastly more important than any and all physical or idealogical wars we'll participate in.  This is about eternity!  I just found this cool quote from James Denney today - "No man can give at once the impression that he himself is clever and that Jesus Christ is mighty to save."

Becoming bolder in talking about Jesus Christ with my friends, and in sharing Scripture with them, are areas in which I am hoping very much to see some changes, in my life.  Is anyone else seeking more boldness / more 'telling forth God's word' in your own life?  What thoughts or tips or things-to-keep-in-mind have helped you in this way?

  • Nice quote! I'll have to write that quote down. I was really challenged this morning by Drew's sermon and "using my sword." I have been quite convicted lately that reading the Bible isn't enough. Meditation and memory need to be more of a vital part of my life.

  • Hi and thanks for the comment! *muses* It would be difficult to reproduce some of those stories...but Caspian is pretty straightforward, so that should be good. What is your Master's in? Do you read Francis Shaeffer? 'Cos I was just reading Edith and she was discussing your media topic. <><

  • She is excellent....and I have no idea if she is living! hmm...I need to check that out. I'm reading "Common Sense Christianity" I think it's called. <><
