washing dishes and changing diapers
Here's a cool quote I came across again today - can anybody guess where it's from?
"Marriage is all about washing dishes and changing diapers. If I can handle washing dishes and changing diapers day after day, year after year, then I'm ready for marriage."

No clue where it came from, but as a married woman I don't agree with it. We've spent four happy years together and never had to do any of those things (at least frequently)!
I have no idea where the quote is from. I think that that quote speaks to the inevitable monotony of spending years and years with someone, but I don't think that it is completely accurate. This is coming from someone who is in the trenches of the diapers and dishes. The initial euphoria of marriage does change, but I think that the quote touches on many problems with marriages. Couples get so run down by the mundane that they forget to have fun together, and they forget about spending time with each other. We have been married for 9 years. Our lives have changed so much since we had children, but we still have so much fun together.
Thanks for all the comments I've received on this (xanga and email)... I guess I was actually using this quote to refer to a small part of the complete preparation/qualification for marriage, namely some of the parts with which I expect I will personally have the most difficulty. But you're right - the quote is quite short-sighted and limited.
Will you tell us where the quote is from? A Google search did me no good.
