"There are not two Christs - an easy-going one for easy-going Christians and a suffering, toiling one for exceptional believers.  There is only one Christ.  Are you willing to abide in Him, and thus to bear much fruit?"       --    Hudson Taylor

This book I just finished reading is extremely challenging.  It has raised many questions in my mind, and also stimulated me greatly in many ways...    I've also been challenged (along similar lines, actually) by what my friend Brian is doing these days.   Time is short (Psalm 90, 1 Corinthians 7:29-31)...   I am expendable.    "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness..."

"...but to this one I will look: to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word."  Isaiah 66:2

  • i can totally relate. but what to do, and where to start, and when? i feel as though i should be doing something more, something seemingly "bigger" for the kingdom of God... and i've been praying about this for some time. but i still don't know what He wants me to do. how do you feel about the will of God? is there a concrete "leading" that we need to wait for, or do we just start down a path and hope that God directs us as we go?

  • Hi Tim.  I agree with Hudson Taylor's quote.  God is who he says he is.  He certainly is not "Wishy-washy".  He is Awesome, The First and the Last, the Shakinah Glory...and much more.  He is a God of perfect, unconditional love.  How blessed we should be to be children of Jesus the Messiah.

I hope you are well and enjoying your summer.  May the Lord Bless you.

  • I can relate to what you posted also...

A few little thoughts come to mind... "he who is faithful in little things..."  ...as in, you and I will please God immensely if we are simply faithful in the little tasks He brings our way, even if we don't consider them "significant"...   e.g. Joseph faithfully taking care of the prisoners in Egypt while a prisoner himself...  Moses 'faithfully taking care of sheep' for 40 years (ha!  I'm sure he had no plans to 'go back into ministry' at 80 years old ;) ...

Another thought...  what makes some ministry 'significant' in your mind?  Why do you feel that what you're doing now is insignificant?  Is it because it involves only small numbers of people?  This has been challenging to me too... perhaps (at least at this time) God is calling me to invest my life more deeply in a small number of people, rather than 'more shallowly' in large numbers of people...

  • hmmm. judging by the american church of today, it often does seem that there are two Christs, or at least two fundamentally different views of "what does it mean to be a Christian?"

confusing, to say the least. i have a lot more thoughts on this, but xanga isn't the ideal medium haha.
